SCES Science Fair Information

Do you know about Science Buddies? It’s a great website that helps your students with their project with lots of resources! I encourage students to use this website as a guide and not to just follow along without personalizing their project!

USEF has compiled a list of projects that students do over and over and over and over! While these projects can definitely teach students about the scientific method, they should not advance to district level fairs or USEF.

How many trials should a student do? For all divisions, 3 is a minimum, however, projects that make it to district fairs should have more! We encourage elementary division students to do 10 trials, middle schools students should shoot for 20 and high school students? As many as possible, especially for behavioral projects. Winning projects at USEF who have advanced to ISEF have had as many as 4,000 behavioral participants. Here’s an article that goes into more depth.

Here is an example/guide to help you through your project. It is a Google Doc, so you can type into it. Your student may type in this document, but must transfer their actual project to a Google Slides presentation. They are NOT to create a board this year.

Here is a final copy of an example.  This one is not in Google Docs, but must be printed.  Then, the student must create a Google Slides Presentation for their project.
